Captain James T. Kirk and some of his former adventure companions witness the maiden cargo of the new USS Enterprise. Right after the ceremony, a distress call is received from two ships trapped in one of those space-time anomalies so common in the Star Trek universe. The Enterprise comes to his rescue, but Kirk is sucked into the Stellar Storm while trying to adjust the engines and is officially declared dead.
